Over 150 years ago, Henry Thoreau asked a haunting question. Since I first read On Walden Pond almost forty years ago, it’s shaped my life, my work and my goals. His question? He simply asked if it wasn’t possible that we could live better than we do, that our lives might be better than they are. What a thought!

If you suspect you were a victim of childhood religious indoctrination and even abuse you may find comfort here in this ongoing discourse: a place to rest, be affirmed, and furthermore to heal yourself and be free of the well orchestrated psychological tyranny perpetrated by orthodox religions. I myself had a taste of this in my childhood…

In 2002, I vacationed in New Orleans and awoke from a glorious dream. “I have to write this into a book, and then it will become a movie or TV show,” I said out loud to myself. To this day, I see that dream as clearly as that foggy morning in the Big Easy. Since then, I’ve grown more spiritually aware and learned to surrender to the Infinite to allow all good things to flow into my life.

The reason kids don’t like doing chores is the same reason adults don’t like doing chores: household tasks are generally boring. Let’s face it; the satisfaction of getting the dishes done is not a very big reward in this day and age of video games and instant gratification. While that doesn’t mean kids shouldn’t do chores, it does help to partly explain why they resist them.

Because of the verbal, emotional and physical abuse, young Arnold dreamed of getting away from his family and becoming strong, rich and famous. His dream revolved around leaving not only his family, but his country as well. “I love Austria and love the Austrian people. But I always knew that America was the place for me. In school, when the teacher would talk about America, I would daydream about living there. I would sit and watch for hours American movies, transfixed by my heroes like John Wayne. Everything about America seemed so big to me, so open, so possible.”

God is everything, the “All That Is” of existence. We are all a part of God but He is greater than the sum of all the parts. This is something that some spiritual “gurus” tend to overlook or misinterpret. We ourselves are not God (although we possess some God-like abilities); we are not equal to God; we are “a part” of God. Although we can manifest things we want if we focus enough and have sufficient belief in the outcome, there is one thing we cannot do. God can manifest souls; we can’t do that. So this does prove that God is greater than the sum of all...

How does manifesting work? How can somebody hold a thought or intention in their mind, and suddenly magically and mysteriously have the Universe materialize it for them without lifting a finger? The experience of instantaneous manifestation is a natural occurrence that can happen for anyone. Whenever you release all of your internal blocks and resistances to having what you want, and feel as if your desire has already manifested in the here and now, the results can become staggering.

Does perfectionism plague you? Do you wish you could loosen up and embrace “good enough”? Do you procrastinate? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, I encourage you to consider the merits of imperfection.

In recent years, a fundamentally different approach to healing and transformation has emerged that combines elements of spiritual practice and psychology into a distinct new discipline. Numerous individuals and groups practice its methods under different, and often esoteric, names: non-dual psychotherapy, Buddhist psychology, Leela Therapy, Diamond Heart Work, Internal Family Systems Therapy, The Presence Process, and Integrative Processing, to name a few. I see these diverse practices as branches of the same burgeoning discipline, an approach I call presence-centered healing and transformation.

Most of us are caught in a tug-of-war between who we think we should be and who we are; between what we want to do and what we’re actually able to do. In other words, we’re at the mercy of our guilt demons. Our feelings of guilt often prevent us from taking care of ourselves. First and foremost, we have to have realistic expectations. I’m talking about what you can reasonably expect of yourself.
